Salisbury City Band of The Royal British Legion
News 2016
January / February
We started off the new year in our new rehearsal venue: St Elizabeth Hall.
Great feedback from the Salisbury RBL Branch: we were told that the Band playing for the Remembrance Parade was "100% better" this year! Put November 13 in your diary - let's aim to do even better in 2016!
The Band has successfully applied to the City Council for a Community Grant to purchase lightweight music stands and other essential equipment.
We're rehearsing now for our Queen's Birthday concert at Leehurst Swan School on Saturday May 14. New repertoire will include the Suite "The Three Elizabeths" by Eric Coates.
March / April
Our first marching engagement of 2016 was for West Wiltshire District Scouts in Westbury on St George's Day.
May / June
The Band performed with the Wiltshire Police Band and the Southern Jacobites Pipe Band at Leehurst Swan Scool, Salisbury in a birthday tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.Funds were rised for The Poppy Appeal and for the Wiltshire Police Bobby Van Trust.
Then on 4th June, we provided music in Winchester's Abbey Gardens for the Queen's 90th Birthday street party.

On Sunday 26th June we performed for Armed Forces Day in Salisbury's Market Square. A large crowd enjoyed the music making, along with the many military exhibits and stalls.
The Band was proud to support Salisbury's commemoration of the Battle of the Somme centenary on Friday July 1st. We played for a service at the War Memorial, commencing at 7:20 a.m. Despite the timing, 13 musicians made an early start to support this important event.
Members of the band visited Clatford CofE Primary School to present an interactive afternoon of performance, with demonstration of instruments and how they make sounds! Children were most attentive and the staff were really appreciative:
"They all thought that you were quite superb. There is no doubt that you gave those children a really special experience that may well have such positive effects for future life. Fantastic!"
We have ideas about extending and developing this experience and would like to hear from local schools!
July / August
To Salisbury on July 30 for an impromptu concert in Old George Mall, then a quick dash over to St Thomas'. A large, appreciative audience was well entertained, giving generously to the Organ Fund and to the Poppy Appeal.
The concert concluded with Ed's presentation of the MD's Award to Wendy, our principal trumpet, for her outstanding contribution this year.
Some of our woodwind players gave individual performances at another of the St Thomas' series of Saturday lunchtime concerts. The event was organised by Jane, who played piano accompaniment throughout. Click below to listen:
