Armed Forces Day 2023
"A great sound for a small band."
Army veteran, September 2024
Salisbury City Band of The Royal British Legion was founded in 2011. The Band works closely with the Salisbury RBL Branch to raise funds, support the Poppy Appeal and provide music for Remembrance and civic events. We have a close association with St Thomas’ Church, where we play for the Christmas Tree Festival and other special events.
We regularly play outdoors, to fulfil our aim of bringing military band music, traditional and new, into public spaces. During the summer months, we have a lively programme of music specially selected for fetes and festivals.
Our Music Director is Lawrence Butchart, formerly of the Band of the Scots Guards. Lawrence is a highly experienced conductor of brass and concert bands, having worked for many years with bands including Woodfalls, Chichester City and Poole Borough Band.
VACANCIES: please contact us. Treble clef parts for lower brass can be provided. If you have good technique and are a good reader, give us a call on 01722 555208. Alternatively use the Contact us page.

"Thank you for your involvement and help in making our Picnic In The Park such a success... I spoke to a lot of people who said how lovely it was to see an event like this again in the town park. So please pass onto your members our thanks and I hope we can do more events together in the future."
Warminster RBL Branch, August 2021
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed your band, all credit to the musicians and of course, band master. Great talent, thank you!
Mrs McC, November 2019
Many thanks to you and all the band for your fab playing on Saturday. You really are a terrific group.
Ms LW, October 2019
I could hear the music from my flat. I listened, then I said to myself, "B****r it, get yourself dressed and go down to listen." Absolutely wonderful!
Salisbury resident, November 2018
The music has moved me to tears, very emotional.
A real professional Bandmaster - he makes that band sing.
Surprising what a short time they've been formed.
Shoppers, Old George Mall, November 2018
"Aren't they brilliant!"
They're the warmest group of people i’ve met in a long time. The music is outstanding, whatever the genre. Shoppers and tourists, and families, love it when they play in town...two year olds danced while an 80 year old lady tapped her feet!
Mrs A.K., September 2018
Standing ovation...
At the end of the concert, the band rightly got their standing ovation and demands for more. Those who came know just how good it was.
Mr J.T., April 2017
Wonderful sound...
I had not heard the band playing in the cathedral before. It was a WONDERFUL sound, both before and after the service.
Mrs G.G., November 2016
A superb evening...
It was a superb evening, which we enjoyed immensely; a worthy tribute to Her Majesty's 90th Birthday. [The solo playing] was a joy.
Mr and Mrs J.U., May 2016
Wonderful, superb band!
From the Salisbury Journal, 8.10.2015:
My husband and I drove to Salisbury from London on September 17 to visit the market, shops and cathedral. It was a sunny autumn day and as we entered Old George Mall, we heard some cheerful music. It was putting a spring in the step of the children who were happily marching along to the Dambusters march.
It made our day to see and hear the Royal British Legion Band. Well done to the musicians for “putting the icing on the cake” and adding to the memories of a superb weekend. Salisbury is a really wonderful city.
